Every man must choose his world

Every man must choose his world.  If we who follow Christ, with all the facts before us and knowing what we are about, deliberately choose the Kingdom of God as our sphere of interest, I see no reason why anyone should object.  If we lose by it, the loss is our own; if we gain, we rob no one by so doing.  The “other world,” which is the object of this world’s disdain and the subject of the drunkard’s mocking song, is our carefully chosen goal and the object of our holiest longing.

Scars

Scars Toby Mac

No, no
Yeah I’m
Just beepin’ right now
I gotta go
Hey

Had you on my mind
Had a little time
Know we kinda overdue
Turnin’ back the pages
To our younger days, yeah
I can still imagine you

Boomin’ like a thunder
Chasin’ life with wonder
With fire that could light a room
Bottom kinda fell out
Waited for the rebound
But you never made a move

When life cuts so deep
Try and remember

You are not alone
We’ve all been there
Scars come with livin’
You are not alone
We’ve all been there (been there, been there, oh), oh
So lift your head, lift your head
Lift your head to where your help comes from

Life ain’t got no sequel
We all broken people
The only road to found is lost
Oversimplifyin’
Ain’t no shame in tryin’
Passion never counts the cost

Now you won’t take my phone calls
You won’t text me back at all
I just wanna see you
I can’t stand to see you gone
Yesterday I missed you
Yesterday I played your song
I’m oversimplifyin’, I’m oversimplifyin’

It doesn’t matter who you are
This world gon’ leave some battle scars

Social Media & the rise of Celebrity Worship Syndrome

Maria Schindlecker's avatarThe Opinionist Online

In a world where everyone is always on their phones, laptops and tablets the chances that you have at least one social media app open are high. The chances that you are following a celebrity, spots person, model or singer are also high.

A few years ago I wrote on the impact Celebrity Worship Syndrome (CWS) was having on people.   Whilst the syndrome has been around for a while the impact social media has had on its increase cannot go unnoticed.

Prior to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and the like, the only access to these celebrities’ was through television interviews and what we read in magazines.

Now nearly every celebrity has a social media account on nearly every platform you can think of. We have more access to them…

Shake it Off: Music for Moody Moms Like Me

Lisa's avatarGrace in the Gravel

Before I became a mom, I thought I was pretty even-keel. Not easily rattled.

Yet there is nothing like two-tiny, needy little humans to prove me just how fickle my moods can be.

Often, moods of frustration, anger, or sadness are triggered by simply letting myself think my own thoughts. These are always exaggerated. These always include sweeping statement words like always, never, when will I be able to just do (fill in the blank with words like sleep, eat, pee alone, take a shower). For instance, if I’m looking around the house at our continual mess I may think “everyone is always working AGAINST me in this house!”. If I come home from work and everyone is screaming for snacks while I’m trying to simply microwaveleftovers for dinnerI think, “Is having 30 minutes to prepare a meal too much to ask?“.

I am self-aware enough to know…
